A bit about the boss

Joe Dale

As managing director, Joe oversees all building and repair projects . He is experienced in many aspects of fiberglass work. Being a keen sailor, he is the go-to man for all your boating chandlery needs.

Boats and the water have been in Joe’s family for generations. He can’t remember his first time in a boat but can recall weekends when his late father would bundle up his brother, baby sister and himself and head out on the lake.

Joe’s passion is sailing – from racing his own sport yacht to helping his younger children who are up and coming Optimist sailors.

During the summer weekends, Joe, his wife Caroline and the kids can often be found having fun on the lake – either on a secluded beach, sailing, biscuiting, skiing or swimming.

Joe has been in the marine industry since leaving university, initially working in marine retail and sail making before beginning his boat building career. He began learning these skills from his father, Bernie – an icon on the boating scene in Taupo.

Dale Boatbuilders was established in Taupo in 1976 by Bernie, who had actually been building boats here since 1966. Since taking over in the 90s, Joe has grown the business from a one-man operation, to employing a team of workers able to cover all your marine and fibre glass needs.

So with all this experience you can rely on Joe, as someone who knows what he is talking about. His knowledge of the many facets of boat building, fibre glass work and everything marine would be hard to beat.
